| I closed down my Lyniebell account on the BBS for personal reasons. I will still read them from time to time as there is some really good writers putting stuff on there that is interesting, such as the crow info.
I just want to feel more comfortable is all, although I do like reading the different opinions. Just not the being made to feel "less than", or if you will, Judged.
Thank you for setting this site up and I am looking forward to seeing what Randy's site will be too.

| I'm extremely happy to have you here with us Lyniebell, and I hope we can grow this forum into a place where like-minded people can share their ideas, even if they all don't mesh precisely into a perfect template of parity. Sharing general principles and learning from one another is the secret to accomplishing great things, and allowing oneself to get bogged down in ceaseless rhetorical exchanges and outright argument is counterproductive and a waste of precious time and energy. Besides, as you have obviously learned from participation on the other site, you can write and write and write, but you can't change the mind of a staunch liberal or leftist one iota. The only reason they persist in the conversation is to get you to meet them halfway, then they take a step backwards or to the left and start demanding you meet them halfway again. Their goal is to nag (or as they call it "debate") you until you either see things their way or at least give concessions or apologies. Sadly, we have a lot of good people over there on that forum who are either too wrapped up in the emotion of argument and can't seem to break free, or are convinced that they can eventually accomplish something by continuing the adversarial dialogue. The logic behind the persistence is based in the hope that enough eyeballs will fall on the truth that occasionally a light bulb will go on in someone's head and they will divert to the right instead of pursuing the path of least resistance to the left. You my dear lady, are evidence that the latter simply does not work. People get tired of the conflict and tireless pontifications copy/pasted page after page. The declining participation on that forum is another solid indicator that the persistent conflict isn't growing the discussion, it's stifling it. Every week that passes tilts that whole forum a little further leftward, and eventually it will be the moderator and the lefties on board all alone. Like yourself, I think there are better uses for my time... Another trap door beneath the feet of that other site is the insistence that it is a closed community only for local residents. That idea was propagated by users who want to keep outside influence from creeping in and spoiling the neat little idea island they have established. While it is neat to have a community calendar and announcements board, the rest is being used as a tool by a lot of different people, some of which aren't even a part of the local community. In this "information age" the average American really has no idea to what extent they are being manipulated and maligned. May I recommend a book to you that I think you'll enjoy? Try "Marketing of Evil" by David Kupelian. It isn't specifically about the internet, but you will find it very informative. Copies are available pretty reasonable at Amazon used. I hope you'll give it a read! | |

| You are a great writer. I enjoy reading this. You describe what it is like perfectly, to read really good points of view and to have debate is great, but like you mention, the persistance of closed minds can be frustrating. I noticed that other people writing there were not from Chatham county too. I am a transplant from N.E. so perhaps that was unsettling to some. I made a note of this book name so I can see about picking it up. I also still need to get another book called Liberty and Tyranny a Conservative Manifesto. Then I will have to find time to read them! I'm looking forward to that. Hope you have a happy Friday! | |

| I'll still try fighting the good fight over next door, but it's more a case of the steel being sharpened on the stone. I know I might not have any influence over the regulars, as they are set in their ways until they are dead, but it's the lurkers I'm hoping to reach. My PM's tell me it works more often that you'd think.
So, I'll see what this neighborhood is like for a while..

| Welcome, snowcamper! (Of course, why anyone would want to camp in the snow is beyond me! ) I have been invited to join some websites where battles can get very heated, but usually when the posts degrade into name-calling, I lurk no longer. I would rather discuss a subject on its merits, both pro and con, without sinking into a childish sewer doing it. | |

The problem with that approach is in order to actually sharpen the steel the exact angle has to be used or you end up dulling it instead. That exacting precision requires intricate attention to detail and a greater investment of time, and unless you have specific need of a razor sharp edge the time is better spent simply using the tool. There is however benefit to the experience you acquire while sharpening....the trick is to know when your metal is sharp enough. Thanks for the compliment Lyniebell, I try to use words appropriately, but sometimes I err to excess. I hope in those times you be as kind, but if you feel the need a little chastening can be a good thing too! March, I think snowcamper means they reside in Snow Camp, NC (but I may be wrong)
