Liberty is freedom to strive, to seek out opportunity, each to engage in their life according to their own judgment. Liberty cannot be stripped away, for liberty is the natural state. But Liberty can be blocked by the hand of man. As men agree to be governed, they agree to some limits on their liberty so that they may live in peace and order.
Liberty requires responsibility. We are responsible for our own actions. When we abdicate our responsibility, we engender a reaction in others that we must be governed. And thus government grows. As government grows, the expectation becomes that government will continue to grow, and that "we don't have to take care of things, someone else will." It becomes a self-fulfilling feedback loop. This phenomenon is well documented, and is known as diffusion of responsibility.
Liberty requires vigilance. Government is the biggest threat to liberty. Though men require government so as not to live in anarchy, government always seeks to grow its power. As government grows its power, liberty recedes. Liberty rarely dies from massive force; rather, it dies from 10,000 cuts.
Liberty requires action. We cannot sit around and hope that someone else will fight for it. Even though we know that hundreds of thousands of others are doing something, that does not mean we can sit on the sidelines and wait. We must engage in the perennial fight for liberty. Sometimes the enemies of liberty are external to our nation; sometimes they are internal. Most times they can be fought with words and ideas, for the right to liberty is that of natural law. Liberty is the natural state, and it is unnatural to impose more than modest limits on liberty.
When men are vigilant, responsible, and active to the cause of Liberty, a nation will flourish. When Liberty is ignored through apathy or disdain as an out-dated idea, a nation will soon perish.

I agree with you, Q-Doc. I fear that so many Americans have become fairly lackadaisical about our liberties, the erosion of which has been going on under every administration for years. But the comfort of all liberties being in existence forever can be quickly fleeting, while so many people are watching silly TV shows in good economic conditions (including some "news" reports), and these days worrying about making a living or being upside down in their home loans has again drawn attention away from our responsibility. Throw in lousy education for the leaders of the future, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, the threats from Iran and N. Korea, possible terror attacks, millions of illegals coming across continually, pressing one for English, and the Fairness Doctrine of quashed speech raising its ugly head again, and the Southern Poverty Law Center watching supposed hate groups, and government agencies listening to everything and reading emails. Surveillance cameras and little black boxes record our travels, our medical records are often processed offshore as are some payroll checks. Our food is imported from countries that don't have the same strict standards we do, all in the name of free trade, while farmers in this country have been known to destroy crops because the price they could get for it is down. It seems to be also moving dangerously to a new world order, beginning with the Law of the Sea Treaty, and there are rumors the International Court may trump decisions by our US Supreme Court. I could go on, but I won't. But I fear Americans will not wake up soon enough!

Former US Navy Sailor here, and I too, took that oath to support and defend the Constitution. I like both videos. They are put together very well.
I am totally disgusted with the Politicians and big Government. I think there needs to be a revolt somehow!
